Security & insurance
Every case at OneCase carries $1,000 of cover as standard, upgradeable to $3,000 for $10 a month. The floor is staff-only, every case is photographed and tamper-tagged in and out, and dehumidifiers run from March to September.
Most of what people leave with us is not worth much and cannot be replaced — photo albums, a child’s first clothes, things a grandparent left behind. So the answer is records, not trust.
Nobody walks the floor
This is the real difference from mini-storage. There are no cubicles rented to individuals and no strangers browsing beside your things. You hand the case over at the counter and staff rack it; no other customer can ever reach it.
Every movement is recorded
- Three photographs at intake, another set at release, and the two must match.
- Numbered tamper-evident tags that show immediately if disturbed.
- You can see the same photographs and timestamps yourself in the app.
- Identity and tag number are both checked at handover.
Dehumidification is not an add-on
Hong Kong’s spring humidity sits in the eighties and nineties for weeks. Clothing sealed inside a closed case for months will mildew without intervention. Dehumidifiers run around the clock from March to September and readings are logged daily. This is baseline, not an upsell.
Insurance
$1,000 per case is included. $10 a month raises it to $3,000, which is worth it for golf clubs, camera gear and instruments. We also carry public liability and goods-in-custody cover.
What cannot be stored
- Lithium batteries, e-scooters, e-bikes, any powered item with its battery still in it
- Compressed gas, spirits, fuel, aerosols
- Flammable liquids and chemicals
- Food, anything perishable, plants
- Cash, jewellery, original identity documents
- Anything illegal
We ask at intake; we do not open your case. This is a fire-safety requirement and it protects everyone else’s belongings too.
Fire safety and the building
The hub is a staff-operated storage use with no self-storage cubicles let to individuals, so it is not a mini-storage under the Buildings Department definition. Escape routes, hose reels and emergency lighting are provided to the requirements for storage use and inspected on schedule.
